I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Nordic Walking because it is so me. It combines my passion for the beautiful English countryside and need for fresh air with my enthusiasm for exercise and fitness. It not only gives me a fantastic all over body workout but is great for my soul and mental well-being too.
I can honestly say Nordic Walking has transformed my life since I retired from nursing. It has given me a sense of purpose and a fabulous new hobby. Who would have thought that in my 60th year, I would train to become a Nordic Walking Instructor but I feel so privileged to have been given the opportunity to enable others to learn the technique and take up this amazing activity.
Most important of all, Nordic Walking has introduced me to a bunch of like-minded people and I have made some fabulous new friends. I love to hear everyone chatting whilst enjoying the surrounding scenery in the constantly changing seasons. Walking in a group makes me feel safe and enables me to get out when friends and family are not available. I also enjoy a challenge (I climbed Kilimanjaro a few years ago) and love taking part in challenge events with the supportive bunch of people that are Nordic Walkers.

Hi, I’m Denise Edens and I love walking with others in the fresh air in beautiful parts of the countryside. I used to enjoy running and aerobics but after twisting a vertebra I needed a form of exercise that was lower impact. I was delighted to discover Nordic Walking on an activity holiday a few years ago because it enabled me to walk at a speed that was faster than normal. It was sociable and fun too.
Nordic walking is as easy or as challenging as you choose to make it, as there are different levels of walks to pick from: flat or hilly terrain, even, muddy or rocky, paths or off-piste, at gentle, moderator or faster paces.
Not only will you benefit physically from a Nordic Walk but you’ll also gain from being outdoors in daylight, having the opportunity to meet other people and exploring new places you might not be familiar with, or might not feel confident to go to on your own. And if we end at a café , we might choose to pop in for a coffee. 😊

A few years ago I had never heard of Nordic Walking but, as someone who loves walking, exploring, challenging myself and making new friends I thought it might just suit me…..and it has been perfect.
I adore my job as an orchestral musician but it is, of course, rather sedentary so I want to be active when I am not at work.
I am at my most content, (and best equipped to do my job well), when I feel fit and strong. Nordic Walking truly delivers…It has made me stronger, more body aware, has improved my posture and has provided a pretty good sub for running as I have got older.
……and the bonus feature… my fascinating, supportive and inspiring Nordic Walking friends who I would not otherwise have met.

Dear Karen, I just wanted to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do for us all. It has been a difficult year/few years for so many of us but the walks and other events have kept me (&, I am sure many others) going physically, socially & emotionally. It really is a holistic service you offer. I can’t describe what it means to people like me who need to a little distraction from day to day stuff. I had a fantastic time yesterday evening & last week at the Old Vic &&& and I am looking forward to more to come at the Christmas Walk and Brunch and the solstice walk…., Thank you so so much.
